LTFRB: Over 12K PUV drivers receive cash assistance from govt

MANILA, Philippines — Over 12,454 drivers of public utility vehicles have so far received cash assistance under the government’s social amelioration program (SAP) since April 7.

The figures were as of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Included in this number are drivers of jeepneys, taxis, buses, motorcycle taxis, and transport network vehicle services, among others.

The distribution of cash assistance to PUV drivers is being led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, in partnership with the Department of Transportation, LTFRB, and the Landbank of the Philippines (LBP).

“Nagpatuloy ang pamamahagi ng ayuda sa mga PUV drivers kanina, mula alas-8:30AM hanggang 12:00NN sa ilang branches ng LBP,” the DOTr said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

(The distribution of assistance for PUV drivers continued earlier from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon in some branches of LBP.)

The DOTr said the names of PUV drivers who may claim cash assistance under SAP can be viewed here.

Here are the requirements for availing the government’s SAP for PUV drivers:

The SAP for PUV drivers is pursuant to the Bayanihan to Heal as One-Act. Under the program, each beneficiary will receive cash assistance ranging from P5,000 and P8,000 depending on the regional minimum wage rate.

Mass transport operations were suspended under the enhanced community quarantine as a measure against the further spread of the coronavirus disease.
