Calabarzon surpasses 100 coronavirus cases, death toll at 17

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 135 cases of the novel coronavirus infection in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon), it said on Sunday.

As of DOH’s Mar. 28 bulletin, 17 people had died while four had recovered from the viral disease. Rizal province has 48 cases, of which seven people had died.

A high number of infection was traced to Cainta (17 cases, three died), Antipolo City (11 cases, two died), Taytay (seven cases, two died), and Binangonan (six cases). Two cases were recorded each in the towns of Jalajala, Rodriguez, San Mateo and one in Morong.

The number of cases also surged in neighboring provinces of Cavite and Laguna, now with 35 and 28, respectively.
In Cavite, a high number of cases were traced to Imus City (nine cases, two died), Bacoor City (10 cases, one died), and Naic (five cases, one died). The rest of the towns with confirmed cases were Alfonso (one died), Dasmariñas City, Gen. Trias City (one died), Maragondon, Noveleta, Rosario, Silang, and Tanza.

In Laguna, most number of infections were traced to the bigger and densely-populated cities of Sta. Rosa (eight cases, one died), Biñan (five cases), San Pedro (five cases), Calamba (three cases), and Cabuyao (three cases, one died). One case each was recorded in Los Baños (the patient died), Lumban, Pila, and San Pablo City.

In Batangas, 18 people were infected with the virus, half of them from the capital city of Batangas (one died). One case each was traced to Lemery, Lian, Lipa City, Mabini, Nasugbu, and Sto. Tomas City . Two cases were recorded in Tanauan City while health authorities were still determining the residence of another patient.

In Quezon, three people from Lucena City tested positive for the disease, and one resident each in Sampaloc, Sariaya, and Tayabas City.
