LEGAZPI CITY –– A stash of ammunition was recovered on Monday by Army soldiers in an abandoned hideout of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a remote village of Del Gallego town in Camarines Sur province, a belated report said Thursday.

Captain John Paul Belleza, Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, said in a statement that they recovered 2,343 rounds of 7.62 ball ammunition; 5,000 rounds of 7.62 linked ammunition; six clipped magazine with eight rounds of ammunition each; 150 rounds of caliber.30 M1 ball carbine ammunition; and 3,460 linked rounds believed to be of .30 caliber ammunition.

Belleza said the stockpile of assorted ammunition believed to have been left by fleeing rebels, was tipped-off by a former NPA rebel, who surrendered recently to the 9ID headquarters in Pili, Camarines Sur.

Belleza, in an interview, said the military and police conducted a joint security operation where they recovered a cache of ammunition at a rebel hideout in Barangay Domagongdong, a hinterland village, on Monday.

On Saturday, Army soldiers on patrol discovered a communist lair in a remote village in Masbate, where a cache of ammunition was recovered.
