Trash collector nabbed for possession of unlicensed gun in Camarines Norte

LEGAZPI CITY — A garbage collector was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Sta. Elena town in Camarines Norte province on Saturday afternoon, police said Sunday.

Colonel Marlon Tejada, Camarines Norte police chief, said Santiago Benitez, 38, was arrested while he was at a drinking session in Barangay (village) San Lorenzo at around 5 p.m.

A concerned citizen reported that Benitez challenged his neighbor to a fight and fired his caliber .9mm pistol six times.

Recovered were 20 live ammunitions and eight fired cartridges.

Initial investigation said Benitez got the gun from a garbage container.
