Truck driver dead in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY –– A 74-year-old driver died in an accident along the diversion road in Pagbilao town in Quezon province early Wednesday.

Pagbilao police identified the victim as Federico Abellera, a resident of Caloocan City.

Police said the victim was negotiating the descending curved section when his cargo truck occupied the opposite lane and slammed into the concrete barriers of the Maharlika Highway diversion road in Barangay Silangang Malicboy around 4:30 a.m.

The wayward truck subsequently crashed into the rear section of a parked cargo truck at the roadside.

Abellera suffered body injuries and died while being taken by rescuers to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.
