Two churches in Manila on Thursday announced that these were extending assistance to couples whose scheduled weddings in Batangas and Cavite have been affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano on Jan. 12.

In a post on their Facebook accounts, the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Manila Cathedral, and the National Shrine of St. Michael and the Archangels, or the San Miguel Church, said they are opening slots to accommodate weddings postponed or canceled because of the calamity.

“For weddings scheduled in January and February 2020 in Cavite and Batangas area affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano, we are extending assistance to those who wish to transfer their wedding to Manila Cathedral,” the church’s social media post offered.

Those interested to transfer their wedding venue to the church may visit the Manila Cathedral Office, from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sundays at 8 a.m.-12 noon.

Fr. Reggie Malicdem, rector of the Manila Cathedral, said that, as of Thursday or five days after the volcanic eruption, the church had already received 15 to 20 inquiries.

“We are asking couples to go personally to the Manila Cathedral. We will discuss all details on a case-to-case basis,” he said, adding that the offered slots for weddings would depend on the availability of the church.

Administrators of the San Miguel Church also urged couples to visit them to discuss the possible transfer of their weddings from the calamity-stricken areas.
