War on drugs gets mixed reviews in latest survey
MANILA, Philippines —Seventy-three percent of Filipinos believe that the number of illegal drug users have decreased amid the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, although an almost equal number of citizens likewise believe that human rights abuses were committed, according to the latest survey result released by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) on Monday.
Seventy-six percent of Filipinos see “many” to “somewhat many” human rights abuses in the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, survey results showed.
56 percent also agree with the United Nations Human Rights Council’s move to investigate alleged extra-judicial killings committed in the campaign.
Twenty percent disagreed, while 24 percent were undecided.
In terms of the number of illegal drug users, fourteen percent or survey respondents believe the number of drug users increased, and 12 percent said the figures remained the same.
The survey was conducted from December 13 to 16 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults.
There were 300 respondents each from Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
