Child run over by cab in QC in critical condition

MANILA, Philippines — An 11-year old child that was reportedly run over by a speeding taxi was brought to the East Avenue Medical Center and was in critical condition, hospital officials said.

The child, identified as Rommel Rogales, was lying on Commonwealth Avenue just before the Tandang Sora Avenue flyover when Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) motorcycle patrol unit officer Epifano Palacas found him.

“He was still breathing when we found him not more than two minutes after he was hit,” Palacas said.

He said witnesses told him that a speeding taxi hit the boy and then sped away. No one managed to get the plate number of the taxi, he said.

He said he tried to radio for an ambulance but the line was busy so he decided to hail a passing taxi that brought the victim to the EAMC trauma center where he underwent x-ray to determine his injuries.
