Kennon Road opens until Jan. 6 to ease holiday rush to Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY — Tourists visiting the summer capital for the Christmas holidays may drive up Kennon Road until Jan. 6 next year, to help ease traffic along two other access roads to Baguio, according to a task force overseeing the iconic zigzag road.

Kennon, the most scenic route to Baguio, had been closed to traffic for months due to repairs because of weakened rock walls that occasionally erode after heavy rains.

But a heavy influx of vehicles has been plaguing Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan Road requiring the opening of Kennon on Friday (Dec. 20), but only for motorists headed up to the mountain city, said Albert Mogol, Cordillera director of the Office of Civil Defense.

Travel down through Kennon Road is still prohibited, he said, except for villagers residing along the road.
