Evacuee count in Bicol swells to more than 200,000 as Tisoy draws nearer land

GUINOBATAN, Albay—The number of people moved out of the path of Typhoon Tisoy in Bicol has swollen to 216,740 as the storm moved nearer to land but already caused a power outage in at least three provinces in the region.

The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol said at least 205,693 residents fled homes to stay in government-designated shelters while 11,047 others moved to relatives’ houses.

Electricity in the provinces of Albay, Catanduanes and Sorsogon had been cut but communication lines remained working.

At least 34 flights to and out of Bicol had been cancelled. More than 2,600 passengers had been stranded at different ports.

Bicol continued to brace for the impact of Tisoy (international name: Kammuri) which was forecast to make landfall in the Albay-Sorsogon area late Monday or early Tuesday.
