1,000 families evacuated as ‘Tisoy’ threatens Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — Around 1,000 families were evacuated from their homes in the provinces of Catanduanes and Camarines Norte on Sunday due to Typhoon Tisoy.

As of 1 p.m., 911 families — or 3,217 individuals — from 11 villages were housed in different schools in Vinzons town in Camarines Norte.

Rhodora Clacio, head of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) Vinzons, said these were residents from areas prone to flash flooding and storm surges.

In Catanduanes, 27 families — or 119 individuals — were evacuated from coastal areas in Pandan town, Noel Garcera Jr., MDRRMO chief, said.

Gener Torzar of MDRRMO Caramoran said 10 families or 50 individuals were also evacuated from a storm surge-prone barangay.
