Pasig to introduce environment-friendly mail delivery

/ 04:56 AM November 28, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig residents will now receive “green mail” after the United Nations Environment Program (Unep) donated 30 electric wheelers to Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) in the city, which will be the first in the country to pilot the more efficient and environment-friendly delivery vehicles.

The two- and three-wheeled motorcycles will increase the capacity of deliverymen from 200 to 12,500 letters and, it is hoped, offer an alternative that could one day be adopted by other cities in a country where 64,000 died in 2017 due to illnesses caused by air pollution.

The new delivery vehicles will hit the pavement as early as this week, according to the Pasig Transport and Development Office.
