Metro Manila accounted for 7 percent or 18,136 of the 271,480 dengue cases reported nationwide from Jan. 1 to Aug. 31, the health department said. It was the region with the fifth highest number of cases after Western Visayas (45,436) Calabarzon (39,810), Northern Mindanao (19,925) and Central Luzon (19,088). —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
