In Baguio, prices of cut flowers soar ahead of ‘Undas’

BAGUIO CITY –– The prices of cut flowers here have sharply increased two days before “Undas” (All Souls’ Day).

Flower vendor Jesus Gutierrez said the prices of some flowers almost doubled from their previous prices.

On regular days, Alstroemeria or Peruvian Lily is sold at P40 to P100 per dozen. This can now be bought for P60 to P150 per dozen.

Radus flower is now P250 per dozen from its previous price of P80 to P150. Roses are P300 to P450 per dozen from P200 to P250.

Anthuriums doubled from P250 to P300 to P500 per dozen.

Small chrysanthemums are sold at P160 per dozen while the large variety costs P300 per dozen.

Among the cheapest flowers are Malaysian mums, which are being sold along Harrison Road, costing P50 per bundle or flower arrangement.

Cameron Odysey, director of the Department of Agriculture in Cordillera, assured consumers of an abundant supply of cut flowers for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

In 2016, flower farms in Benguet province produced 42 million dozens of flowers.
