MANILA, Philippines — Mekeni Food Corp. said Saturday that it would recall its pork products amid reports that some processed pork products had been found to be positive for African swine fever (ASF).

The Pampanga-based meat processing firm said their products would undergo tests to check for possible exposure to ASF in compliance with government regulations.

“Even as we wait for the results of these tests, we have decided to initiate a voluntary recall of all of our pork-based products effective 26 October 2019. This is to ensure that we mitigate the possibility that our products inadvertently become carriers of ASF,” the firm said in a statement.

However, the firm maintained that its products were safe for consumption, noting that the Department of Health and Department of Agriculture reiterated that ASF posed no danger to human health.
