Fake bomb threat hits PNU in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A false bomb threat disrupted Philippine Normal University (PNU) in Manila on Thursday morning, a PNU official said.

Bert Tuga, PNU vice president for finance and administration, told INQUIRER.net that one of their faculty members received a text message from an unknown number regarding an alleged bomb planted inside their university at around 9 a.m.

The text message and the unknown number was sent to Tuga which showed: “May mga bomba na naitanim sa loob ng pamantasan. Pwede itong sumabog ng kahit anong oras ngayong umaga.”

(There are bombs planted inside the university. It may explode at anytime this morning.)

Tuga said he acted immediately and prompted security officers and Manila Police District regarding the bomb threat.

The MPD Bomb Squad responded to the area at 9:45 a.m. and after two hours, they declared that there were no explosives found inside the university.

“It lasted more than two hours, it is around 11:20 that it is clear and that there is no unusual item in the university,” Tuga said in an interview. /je
