Girl, 5, killed in Quezon freak accident

LUCENA CITY – A five-year-old girl was killed in a freak vehicular accident in San Francisco town in Quezon province on Friday, police said Saturday.

San Francisco police said the victim, which was not identified, was playing inside a parked passenger jeepney in Barangay (village) Silongin around 9:30 a.m.

Police said the victim shifted the transmission gear of the vehicle that was parked in an elevated portion of the sidewalk, causing it to move backward.

Frightened by the sudden movement of the vehicle, the little girl jumped out of the back of the jeepney but was hit by the rolling vehicle.

FEATURED STORIES

The victim died from serious injuries while being taken to the San Francisco Municipal Hospital.

Primo Salagubang, the driver and registered owner of the vehicle, escaped after the incident, police said.  /muf
