Tagle to baptize 450 street kids
Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will lead on Saturday the baptismal rites for 450 street children in a bid to bring the poor closer to the Christian faith.
According to Fr. Matthieu Dauchez, executive director of the Tulay ng Kabataan Foundation Inc., impoverished kids often do not get baptized because their parents think it would just cost them money.
“We observed that poor families think that there is a fee, although sacraments are for free. [That’s why we are] changing that by offering baptism to the greatest number of children,” Dauchez said in a statement.
He pointed out that it’s the Church’s responsibility to bring the faith closer to those who have less in life.
“When it is so difficult to bring our wounded children close to God, it is, on the opposite, very easy to bring the Lord to them through Sacraments,” he said.—JOVIC YEE
