NCRPO ready to deploy tracker teams to arrest 176 GCTA-freed convicts

MANILA, Philippines — National Capital Region Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that tracker teams are now on standby to arrest 176 convicts believed to have been erroneously released due to the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.

Hours before the deadline ends on Thursday, Eleazar encouraged these remaining convicts with addresses in Metro Manila to surrender to the nearest police stations.

“The police precincts, police stations and our offices here at NCRPO are open 24 hours, and we shall be ready to arrange for your turnover to the proper authorities. After midnight, we shall be fielding tracker teams to pursue and arrest these men,” he said.

Records from the Bureau of Corrections showed there are 202 convicts believed to be erroneously released based on good conduct with addresses in Metro Manila.

A total of 48 convicts have surrendered to police stations in Metro Manila as of Thursday.

Of this number, 21 have surrendered to police stations, three to BuCor.

Another 24 have surrendered to police stations under the NCRPO though not recorded as residents of Metro Manila.

Another two died due to natural causes.
