Cop, 4 drug suspects killed in Tawi-Tawi shootout

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer and four drug suspects were killed in a shootout during a buy-bust operation in Tawi-Tawi on Tuesday.

Police conducted the operation on Ibno Suhud Jaani, alias Suyung, at about 9:30 a.m. in Barangay Luuk Pandan in Bongao town.

The suspect and his three other unidentified companions then opened fire at the officers.

Staff Sgt. John De La Peña Ventura, a Special Action Force (SAF) commando, was killed in the encounter.

Three other SAF commandos were injured — Staff Sgt. Feler Ragas Perito, Staff Sgt. Liberato Revisa Antang, and Cpl. Diomar Regay Tibor.

Police confiscated 50 grams of suspected crystal meth, or “shabu,” in the operation.
