Woman rushed to hospital after botching abortion attempt
KOTA KINABALU — A woman believed to have taken abortion pills was rushed to hospital after the process went wrong.
It is learnt that the woman in her 20s, who was six months pregnant, was in a hotel room in Kudat district when she swallowed about 20 pills and inserted some into her vagina on Sunday (Sept 8), in the hope of getting her baby out.
Around afternoon the next day (Sept 9), her baby fell out, but the placenta got stuck in her womb.
She had no choice but to inform the hotel staff, who alerted the authorities.
Her baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kudat Hospital.
Kudat OCPD Supt Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah said the woman was later sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further examination and treatment.
“She is in a stable condition and will be investigated under Section 315 of the Penal Code for abortion, ” he said.
