Heinous-crime convict surrenders to CIDG in Laguna

SAN PEDRO CITY –– Another convict freed through the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) program turned himself in to the authorities in Laguna on Saturday.

Menandro Trimor, 59, voluntarily went with members of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Cabuyao City around noon.

Lt. Emmanuel Rabe, deputy chief of CIDG-Cabuyao, said they have been going around the province visiting the addresses of convicts released through the GCTA to convince them to surrender.

This was under the order of President Duterte, which gave around 1,700 crime convicts 15 days to surrender to the authorities.

The order came at the height of controversies surrounding the GCTA that effectively reduced the court penalty.

In a phone interview, Rabe said they found Trimor in his residence in Barangay Tadlac, Los Baños. Trimor was also assisted by village officials when he decided to surrender to the CIDG.

Trimor was sentenced to life imprisonment for two counts of rape on April 24, 1995.

He was released from the New Bilibid Prison on January 7.

Rabe said Trimor would be turned over to the Bureau of Corrections./lzb
