LPA outside PAR may intensify into a tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine, Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday said it is monitoring yet another low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that may soon develop into a tropical depression.

According to the 4 p.m. PAGASA bulletin, LPA was 1,255 kilometers east of the Visayas region. It may enter the PAR early Monday morning.

Once within PAR, the LPA may develop into a tropical depression on Monday or Tuesday morning, in which case it will be named “Jenny,” the 10th storm to hit the country this year and the third for the month of August.

The weather disturbance may make landfall in Northern Luzon anytime from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning and may also affect Central Luzon and parts of Southern Luzon.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy with light to moderate rain showers over the eastern part of Luzon including Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon region, and Mindoro provinces.

Western Visayas and Negros Occidental may also have localized thunderstorms on Sunday night, and there is  a high chance of localized thunderstorms occurring in the whole Visayas region on Monday.

Mindanao will be cloudy and may have rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

A gale warning was raised over the coasts of Batanes, Babuyan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
