MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Sunday expressed alarm over the growing number of maltreated foreign nationals in the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the government does not tolerate any kind of abuse against foreign nationals.

Earlier, a 27-year old Chinese national died after falling from a six-story building in Las Pinas City while being handcuffed by a fellow Chinese.

“We need to put a stop to these illegal acts. We will not allow nor tolerate any kind of abuse inflicted on any foreigner whether sojourning or working in this country, whether done by their fellow nationals or by our own citizens,” Panelo said in a statement.

He then urged foreign visitors, particularly Chinese nationals, to report abusive employers and other acts in that violate the law to authorities.

“No one is exempted from the strict enforcement of our laws of the land,” he said.

The Las Piñas City police identified the Chinese national who plunged to his death as Yang Kang.

Report showed that Kang was found on the pavement beside a building along C.V. Star Avenue early Friday.

Malacañang has already ordered the Philippine National Police to conduct a thorough investigation. /gsg
