Suspect in killing of cops in Negros Oriental arrested
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested a suspect in the killing of four police officers who were allegedly tortured in Negros Oriental, police said.
The Central Visayas Police Regional Office (PRO 7) identified the suspect as Jojo Torres Ogatis, 19.
Members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 Striking Force l arrested the suspect in Sitio Sook, Barangay Mabato, Ayungon in Negros Oriental at around noon.
Ogatis was taken to 704th Maneuver Company of the RMFB7 in Mabina, Negros Oriental.
On July 18, four police officers – namely, Cpl. Relebert Beronio, Pat. Raffy Callao, Pat. Roel Cabellon, and Pat. Marquino de Leon – were gunned down by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Ayungon, Negros Oriental.
The NPA owned up to the killings, saying that the police officers acted as spies in police operations that led to killings on Negros Island.
