2 soldiers killed in Cotabato ambush

KIDAPAWAN CITY — Two soldiers belonging to the Army’s 19th Infantry Battalion were killed in an ambush Wednesday afternoon in Arakan, Cotabato, police said.

According to Arakan police chief Captain Jose Marie Molina, the soldiers were aboard a motorcycle en route to their detachment in Barangay Kinawayan when suspected New People Army (NPA) guerrillas attacked them.

Molina said the soldiers were in Sitio Lucatong of Barangay Kinawayan to conduct orientation about the Community Support Program among village residents.

The military and police have launched pursuit operations against suspected NPA rebels.

Molina declined to name the victims.
