MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said they have no confirmation on the presence of an Egyptian couple in Sulu who are allegedly planning to carry out a suicide bombing mission.

“Yung sa Egyptian [couple]  hindi pa confirmed yan although yes, with the past incidents merong naging foreign nationals na-involve sa suicide bombings,” Albayalde told reporters in Camp Alagar, Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday.

Albayalde, however, said it could be possible that foreigners could set suicide missions in the country.

“Hindi natin mapagkaila na merong foreigners dito sa Pilipinas na pwede pa gumawa na ganun,” Albayalde said.

Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence, and Terrorism President Rommel Banlaoi earlier claimed that an Egyptian couple is now in Sulu to carry out a suicide bombing mission on the orders of the Islamic State.

Banlaoi had no information since the Egyptian couple has been staying in the Philippines. He said the military and police are already aware of this report. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
