MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno,” Domagoso said Monday that jeepney terminals around the Andres Bonifacio Monument will be dismantled and will not be moved to a new area.

“There are no plans of putting up terminals on the streets of Manila,” Moreno said in a press conference.

“That’s crazy for government to do that,” he explained. “Ano yun, pinalitan lang namin, nilipat lang namin yung problema? Kalye hindi pwede maging terminal (Transferring the terminal to another area is only transferring the problem elsewhere. Streets cannot be used as terminals).”

Moreno earlier warned that those living and selling goods in the said historical landmark should vacate the area by July 10.

“Parks, alleys, boulevards, bangketas (sidewalks), highways, roads are beyond the commerce of men,” he said.

“Let’s put things in the right perspective. Napakinabangan ninyo na ng anim na taon yan, and I think pagod na po ang mga taga-Maynila sa ganyan (You made use of that space for six years. I think Manila residents are tired of that,” he added. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
