MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed another Belgica to a government post, the third member of the clan to join the Duterte administration.

The President has appointed lawyer Jeremiah Belgica, brother of Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Greco Belgica, as director-general of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).

Duterte signed Belgica’s appointment papers on July 3 but was released only to media on Friday.

Aside from the two younger Belgicas, their father, Grepor, is currently a Presidential Adviser for Religious Affairs.

ARTA was established after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11032, otherwise known as the “Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018” on May 28, 2018.

Since then, the agency had no chief and was only headed by Ernesto Perez as the officer in charge.

The passing of the IRR of RA 11032 has been delayed because Duterte has not appointed a director-general to head ARTA.
