MANILA, Philippines—Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso continued to paint a picture of his style of governance on Thursday (July 4), warning he would be tough against contractors who would violate rules like those against abandoning debris or materials in construction sites.

Domagoso made the announcement after meeting with representatives from national government agencies and private companies at the City Hall.

He said he had an agreement with the agencies and companies that all undesirable contractors would not be welcome and be banned from operating in Manila.

“It’s very clear,” the new mayor said. He said any violation of the most basic of rules would lead to a ban on contractors.

Moreno cited complaints by Manila residents against private contractors leaving behind debris or materials after finishing a project or after leaving a project unfinished.

The agreement with agencies and companies, according to Moreno, would ensure all projects in Manila would be done efficiently and without mess.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Metro Manila Development Authority and Department of Public Works and Highways and the private firms PLDT, Globe, Smart, Meralco, Bayantel, Maynilad and Manila Water. (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
