MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) downgraded on Monday its alert status from full to heightened alert three days after the bombing of a military camp in Indanan, Sulu that killed eight persons and injured 22 others.

Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO chief, said the alert status was downgraded after validation and consultation with other law enforcement agencies and military units regarding the threat level in Metro Manila.

“While the recent bombing case is being probed, we cannot relax our guard,” he said in a statement.

Immediately after the twin blast on Friday, the NCRPO was placed on full alert status to deter “unscrupulous individuals in carrying out their illegal or terrorist acts.”

But even with the alert level downgraded, Eleazar said all unit and station commanders in the NCRPO should continue to secure all police headquarters and offices, vital installations, economic key points and places of convergence to guarantee the safety of the public.

Despite the absence of a terrorist threat in the metropolis, he said the police officers would remain proactive in performing their duty.

Eleazar also reminded the public to remain alert and report any incident or suspicious person to the nearest police station.
