MWSS orders Maynilad to pay affected households
For failing to supply water to several homes in Las Piñas City for more than two weeks, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) fined Maynilad Water Services Inc. P2,500 for every affected household.
The MWSS said Maynilad failed to meet its concession obligations when the water supply in parts of Barangay Captain Albert Aguilar in Las Piñas was cut off for more than 15 days last May.
The water regulator ordered Maynilad to rebate the amount to its consumers through succeeding water bills or statements of account until the amount of the fine is fully paid.
MWSS chief regulator Patrick Ty told the Inquirer the rebate should be reflected in the monthly bill for August “if Maynilad does not file a motion for reconsideration.”
The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) was tasked to facilitate the rebate although Ty did not yet know how many households are entitled to the rebate.
“This case involving customers in portions of Barangay Captain Albert Aguilar is the only [case] where the MWSS RO found that service interruption exceeded 15 days,” he added.
