Lacson: I’m no turncoat, I speak my mind

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo Lacson on Wednesday said it is unfair to brand him as a turncoat as he openly and objectively expresses his opinion on key issues, be it for or against the current administration.

“Kaya nga no matter what my own critics  are saying na balimbing, hindi maintindihan yung   position…Ang problema kasi yung divisiveness sa bansa  natin has become  too deep,”  he said  at the regular  Kapihan sa Senado.

(Critics say they don’t understand my position, that I am a turncoat.  The problem is that divisiveness in the country runs deep.)

“Kasi pag meron kang position na mukhang ang  tingin nila nagfa-favor sa kanila, dun sa  isang  partisan group, para  bang ang ine-expect nila lahat na lang nang sasabihin mo  dapat pabor sa kanila, otherwise mali ka na, which is the wrong attitude, ” he added.

(They think that I agree with them in one issue, I will have to back them up in every other issue, otherwise, I am wrong, which is not the right way of thinking.)

Lacson’s statements came after he earlier said that President Duterte’s reaction to the reported ramming and sinking of a Philippine fishing boat by a Chinese vessel at Recto Bank in the West Philippine Sea was heartbreaking.

“The President broke his silence and left us heartbroken,” Lacson said after Duterte said the incident was “little maritime accident.”  (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
