LEGAZPI CITY –– Rotational brownouts were experienced in some parts of Sorsogon province for the past two days because of the low capacity of power in the Luzon grid.

Nilda Somera, spokesperson of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Bicol, said the brownouts on Tuesday and Wednesday, covered areas under the Sorsogon Electric Cooperative 1 (Soreco 1), which includes the towns of Matnog, Santa Magdalena, Irosin, Bulusan, Bulan, Magallanes, Juban and Casiguran.

Somera said the NGCP has raised the yellow and red alert status and would implement a Manual Load Dropping in these areas to maintain the integrity of the power system, depending on the available power capacity of the grid.

An NGCP bulletin said that aside from Soreco 1, Manual Load Dropping would also affect some areas in Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Bataan, Quezon and Metro Manila.
