CITY OF MALOLOS — About a hundred members of the urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) picketed the Bulacan Capitol on Thursday (June 13) to demand the release of their two colleagues who were arrested while posting campaign posters of defeated senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares.

Kadamay members John Griefen Arlegui and Reynaldo Vuernes Jr. are at the Nueva Ecija detention facility of the Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, but they were charged for illegal possession of firearms and explosives at the Bulacan Prosecutor’s Office.

The two were putting up Colmenares’ posters on April 13 along the Angat-Pandi Road in Angat town when were allegedly taken by armed men and driven away in a red vehicle to Nueva Ecija

Kadamay members spent two days searching for the two men, who were eventually brought to Bulacan to be charged for guns and a grenade allegedly found in their possession upon their arrest, said Gloria Arellano, Kadamay chairperson.

The rally was staged by the Pandi town chapter of Kadamay, whose members argued that the police complaints against Arlegui and Vuernes were fabricated. Carmela Reyes-Estrope INQ
