MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has created an inter-agency task force to help ease traffic from Cubao, Quezon City to Makati City, an official of the agency said Monday.

MMDA Edsa traffic head Bong Nebrija said the task force “CubMa” or “Cubao-Makati” was created in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent pronouncement that travel time from Cubao to Makati will be reduced to only five minutes.

“Alam niyo naman po lahat ng pronouncement ng Pangulo, it becomes a directive and a mandate not only to MMDA but to all government agencies,” Nebrija said in an interview over dzMM.

“Recently, tinayo na po natin yung task force CubMa ahead of the President’s pronouncement,” he added.

Under the task force, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) would introduce “engineering interventions” to ease up traffic, Nebrija said.

“Now we have a goal: kung attainable ‘yan (five minutes) o hindi. We already see the light at the end of the tunnel. Nandyan na ‘yung goal ng Presidente” the Edsa traffic head said.

“Everybody should be involved, not only the government agencies, but also the people… Ang displina ay napakalaking bagay,” Nebrija added. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
