Comelec resumes canvassing of midterm poll votes

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), resumed on Thursday the canvassing of votes for the midterm elections.

So far, 89 certificates of canvass (COCs) — or 53.29 percent of 167 COCs — from across the country and posts abroad have already been canvassed.

According to the Comelec’s latest partial and official count, reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar leads the race with 10,416,332 votes.  This is more than a million of votes lead over fellow reelectionist Senator Grace Poe, who garnered 9,151,162 votes.

Sitting outside the Magic 12 is reelectionist senator and opposition bet Bam Aquino, former senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) party-list group, which is backed by radio personality Erwin Tulfo, continued to dominate the party-list race of the May midterm elections.

The ACT-CIS garnered 1,361,983 votes, making it the first party-list group to breach the 1 million mark.

The COCs from provinces, cities, local and overseas absentee voting that were already canvassed were that of Abra, Aklan, Antique, Batanes, Catanduanes, Cebu city, Caloocan City, Marikina City, Pasig City, Parañaque City, Malabon city, Taguig-Pateros, Davao City,  Davao del Norte,  Ilocos Sur, Kalinga, Masbate, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Romblon, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Surigao del Sur, Quirino, Zamboanga Sibugay, Camarines Sur, Sarangani, La Union, Australia, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Islamabad, Phnom Penh, Oman, China, Taiwan, Malaysia. Dili, Vatican city, India, Yangon, the Hague, Prague, Berlin, Indonesia, Hanoi, Cairo, Brazil, Dhaka, Port Moresby, Lebanon, and Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, the partial and unofficial tally of votes from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) transparency server showed that 97.34  percent of vote counting machines have already been transmitted.

The NBOC first convened its canvassing session last Monday but immediately adjourned after no votes have been transmitted to Comelec.
