Elections venue for opposition’s fight for truth – Pangilinan
MANILA, Philippines — The 2019 midterm elections were a “fight for truth and for [what is] right,” Sen. Francis Pangilinan said on Monday as he expressed optimism that the candidates of the opposition coalition Otso Diretso would win over President Rodrigo Duterte’s chosen senatorial candidates.
Pangilinan, Otso Diretso campaign manager and president of the Liberal Party (LP), also called on the coalition’s supporters to look forward to facing the “next battles” ahead.
“We have flexed our democratic muscles and we know our strength,” the senator said in an e-mailed statement.
Next battles
“And all these are what we will take in the next battles because there will be more. But then, there will be more of us [in] our ranks as well,” he added.
Pangilinan thanked the volunteers who helped the LP-led coalition in mounting the campaign of its senatorial lineup, made up mostly of political lightweights, save for former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and reelectionist Sen. Bam Aquino.
