3 nabbed for gun ban violation in Masbate

MASBATE CITY — A few hours before the voting period on election day, three men were arrested for possession of firearms in Batuan town in Masbate province Monday morning, police said.

Junie Mitra, 42, Jimmy Escote, 61, and Tito Abaño, 49, were arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act” in relation to Commission on Elections gun ban.

The three were riding a Hyundai closed van where the police recovered a 9mm pistol, one magazine and 15 live ammunition with attached silencer in Barangay (village) Burgos around 4 a.m.

The police also confiscated a loaded caliber .45 pistol and two magnum .22 guns loaded with live ammunition. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
