Village chair, aide shot dead in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY — A village chair of Sultan Kudarat town and his aide were killed in a daylight shooting along a busy street here on Monday, police said.

Tacurong City police director Lt. Col. Jeofil Siason said Abdul Daud, 44, chairperson of Barangay Lilit, Lambayong town of Sultan Kudarat, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tacurong City while his unarmed escort, Tahir Tangkilisan, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

Siason said Daud and Tangkilisan, a member of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body after two men aboard a motorbike opened fire at them around 11 a.m. along Quirino Mercado Avenue, Barangay Poblacion here.

Also injured from the incident were Daud’s daughter Riannie, 21, a teacher, and a 12-year-old relative, according to police.

Siason said the victims were heading to Lambayong town, about 10 kilometers away from a hospital where Daud underwent a medical checkup.

Before going home, they dropped by a roadside store to buy a pair of slippers.

Responding policemen rushed him to the hospital where he died minutes later.

Siason said police investigators are now studying the CCTV footage that captured the identity of the suspects. /kga
