PNP to intensify intel monitoring after Sri Lanka bombings

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will intensify its monitoring of intelligence information following the series of blasts in churches and high-end hotels in Sri Lanka that killed at least 207 and injured hundreds.

PNP chief General Oscar Albayalde said this on Monday, adding that terrorists who perpetrated the attacks may seek refuge in other countries after carrying out the bombings.

“[They] can go to any other places anywhere in the world to seek refuge and we are no excuse on that. Ito ‘yung mga tinitingnan natin na baka itong mga ito ay papasok din sa atin. Kaya ang sinasabi natin dito every time na may mga ganyan, we intensify our intelligence monitoring,” he said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

(They can go to any other places anywhere in the world to seek refuge and we are not excused from that. We are looking at whether or not they could also enter our country. Everytime there are incidents like that, we monitor our intelligence monitoring.)

Albayalde however said that there will be no major haul in security measures being implemented in the country following the bombings as the PNP does not want to create unnecessary panic to the public.

He said that there is no threat in the country being monitored by the police similar to the bombings in Sri Lanka, but said the PNP is not discounting the possibility that terrorists may also launch an attack here. /je
