2 human trafficking victims rescued in Agusan

MANILA, Philippines – Two victims of human trafficking, one of them a minor, were rescued in a police operation in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.

The Caraga Police Regional Office on Wednesday said that operatives from the regional police, Bayugan police, and the city’s social workers implemented a search warrant issued by Judge Isah Echem-Tangonan of Regional Trial Court Branch 33.

During the operation, a certain Avelina Jummamoy, a resident of Barangay Poblacion was arrested while the two victims, who are believed to be cybersex performers employed by the suspect, were rescued.

Authorities recovered one computer set, a cellphone, a tablet, a video camera, speaker, internet router, a telephone, assorted sex gadgets and other pieces of evidence which may have been used in cybersex operations.

Jummamoy will be charged with violation of R.A. 9208 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and Section 4(c) (Content-related Offenses) of R.A. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. / gsg
