NBI asked to probe alleged plot to assassinate Evasco
MANILA, Philippines–The family of former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio B. Evasco Jr. has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate a possible assassination plot against the family patriarch.
Evasco’s wife and children wrote a letter to NBI Director Dante Gierran asking that the agency conduct an investigation to confirm and identify the people behind the alleged plot.
Evasco resigned from the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte last year to run for governor of Bohol in the May midterm polls.
In the signed letter, Evasco’s family said that after learning of the assassination plot, they have managed to convince the former Cabinet official to use security escorts. However, relatives, friends and supporters of Evasco still noticed motorcycles occasionally running alongside the former Cabinet official’s service vehicle.
“For this reason, we are humbly requesting your office to undertake a thorough investigation into the reported assassination plot…In the event that the said plot is confirmed, we trust that this investigation will result to the unmasking of the identities of the assassins contracted for the plot but most especially for the people who contracted them,” read letter.
They requested that a team from the NBI Central Office conduct the investigation to remove all doubts and suspicions.
