5.6-magnitude quake shakes Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Mindanao was hit by a 5.6-magnitude quake on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The earthquake, which was initially reported to be in Davao Occidental with 5.5 magnitude, was located 10 kilometers (km) northeast of Alabel, Sarangani at 7:07 a.m., Phivolcs said.
It had a depth of 96 km and was of tectonic origin.
The earthquake that struck Sarangani caused the following intensities in various areas:

Instrumental Intensities were also reported in the following areas:
Intensity V – Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City, South Cotabato
Intensity IV – Kiamba, Saranggani
Intensity III – T’Boli, South Cotabato; Davao City
Intensity II – Kidapawan City
Intensity I – Zamboanga City
There were no reports of damage or injury but Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected from the earthquake. /muf
