DID YOU KNOW: DOH statistics on rabies cases

According to the latest statistics from the Department of Health, the region with the highest number of rabies cases from Jan. 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018 was Central Luzon with 185 cases, followed by Calabarzon with 172 cases, and Soccsksargen with 110 cases.

At least 92 percent of the cases were due to exposure to suspected rabid dogs, followed by cats at three percent.

Data showed 59 percent of the cases were hospitalized in facilities outside their province of residence.

Facilities in the National Capital Region reported 32 percent of the cases in 2018. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
