Politicians, celebs mourn death of architect Bobby Mañosa

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) — Politicians and celebrities posted messages on Twitter to pay tribute to National Artist for Architecture Francisco “Bobby” Mañosa, who died at the age of 88.

“RIP Bobby Manosa a great exponent of Philippine architecture and design,” Sen. Sonny Angara said.

Senator Francis Pangilinan, meanwhile, expressed his condolences, noting Mañosa’s “genius” architectural contributions to the country.

“Ang kanyang henyo ang nagbigay sa atin ng EDSA Shrine, LRT1 stations, Coconut Palace, at iba pang makabagong disensyo ng bahay kubo — mga obrang nagpakita ng kanyang lubos na pagmamahal sa Pilipinas, sa mga katutubong materyales na nagbibigay-buhay sa kultura natin,” Pangilinan said in a statement.

“Itinuro niya na ang Filipino architecture ay may kakaibang lohika at ganda. Salamat Bobby Mañosa sa iyong inspirasyon at pamana ng pagmamahal sa bayan,” he added.

Sen. JV Ejercito also tweeted: “With my deepest sympathies to the passing of a national artist, Bobby -Mañosa. Proud that our house was designed by him when he wasn’t a national artist then.”

Singer Lea Salonga said: “Rest In Peace, Tito Bobby, and condolences and prayers to the Mañosa family.”

Mañosa’s notable works were the Coconut Palace, EDSA Shrine, the Davao Pearl Farm, and Amanpulo resorts. /atm
