 PNP: Beware of Valentine’s Day scams

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is asking the public to beware of scams related to Valentine’s Day.

“Well para sa araw ng mga puso na idadaos sa ating bansa, ang aming paalala lamang sa mga kababayan natin, tayo po’y mag-ingat at wag po tayong magpabiktima sa mga gustong manloko sa atin,” PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac told reporters on Wednesday at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

(On Valentine’s Day, we are reminding the public to beware of unscrupulous individuals.)

“Wag po tayong magpabiktima, lalo na yung modus na kailangang mag downpayment ka ng pera o magpadala, wag po tayong magpadala sa mga ganoon dahil alam po natin tayo lang po ay masasaktan at malalagay lamang sa alanganin,” he added.

The PNP likewise warned perpetrators of the various illegal schemes.

“Doon naman po sa mga bumibiktima, paalala natin sa kanila wag na po ninyong gawin ang mga ito, wag po tayong manakit ng ating kapwa, wag tayong manloko,”

Banac also reminded police officers on duty to further beef up security in public places. / gsg
