DRUGS AT CITY JAIL

THE 25 grams of shabu seized from a suspected courier came from the Cebu City jail, the arrested man said.

Sawaib Magondacan Sultan, 28, was earlier arrested carrying drugs wrapped in newspaper sheets.

Sultan, a native of Marawi City who lives in Talisay City, said he was paid P1,000 to deliver the package but didn’t know what was inside.

He was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by intelligence members of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the police are willing to assist jail management in investigating the claim that the drugs came from the city jail in barangay Kalunasan.

Buenafe said the city police have helped in several “greyhound operations” or surprise inspections conducted at the city jail to search for contraband like drugs and illegal weapons. CHITO O. ARAGON

CEBU CITY FIRE

FIRE struck a house in barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City, yesterday morning.

Damage was pegged at P260,000.

The house is owned by Esperanza Felisario but was occupied by her son Jimmy.

The fire broke out past 10 a.m.

Witnesses said it started in the room of househelper Alejandra Selbi, according to Cebu City Fire Marshall Aderson Comar.

The heavy downpour yesterday helped firefighters contain the fire in 10 minutes, said Comar.
