LRT1 enforces stricter security measures following Mindanao blasts

MANILA, Philippines — Security at the Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) was tightened following series of bombing incidents in Mindanao.
LRT-1 Corporate Communications head Rochelle Gamboa said Wednesday they are implementing stricter security measures in all of its 20 stations.
“Stricter security control measures include additional security personnel doing inspection and patrol, strict implementation of access control, more panelling of stations using K9, more street level motorized inspection,” Gamboa said in a text message to INQUIRER.net
A series of bombing occurred in parts of Mindanao since Sunday, January 27, when two explosions rocked Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulo, killing at least 20 people and wounding over 100 others.

Another bomb exploded Monday evening in North Cotabato, killing a police officer and hurting at least seven people.

On Wednesday, a grenade was thrown inside Mahardika mosque in Zamboanga City, leaving two Islam teachers dead and three others injured.
