MANILA, Philippines — Among the branches of government, it was only the Senate that received a “very good” net satisfaction rating in the fourth quarter of 2018, a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court (SC) and the Cabinet remained at “good” net satisfaction rating.

The survey found that 71 percent of Filipino adults were satisfied with the performance of the Senate, while 13 percent were dissatisfied.

This catapulted the net satisfaction rating of the Senate to +58 or “very good” from its rating of “good” or +48 in September.

The SWS said this was the highest rating that the Senate has received recently since it got a “very good” rating in August 2012.

The polling body said the 10-point increase in the net satisfaction rating of the Senate could be attributed to the increases of satisfaction in all areas, especially in Metro Manila.

House of Representatives

The House’s net satisfaction saw a four-point increase in the rating from +36 in September to +40 in December.

This gave the House a “good” net satisfaction rating, which is the highest since the +42 or “good” rating in June 2016.

The survey found that more than half or 57 percent of Filipinos were satisfied with the performance of the House, while 17 percent were dissatisfied.

The four-point rise in the overall net satisfaction rating of the House of Representatives was due to increases in Metro Manila and the Visayas, combined with steady scores in Mindanao and Balance Luzon, the SWS said.

Supreme Court

The satisfaction rating of the Supreme Court, which remained “good,” also experienced a hike of six points from +31 in September to +37 in December.

The six-point increase in the rating of the SC could be attributed to the increases of satisfaction in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, and the Visayas, balanced by the slight decline in Mindanao.

Also more than half of Filipinos or 54 percent were satisfied with the SC while 17 percent were dissatisfied, the survey showed.

Cabinet

The net satisfaction rating of the Duterte administration’s Cabinet, though seeing a three-point hike, stayed at “good.”

Fifty-two percent of Filipinos were satisfied while 17 percent were dissatisfied, yielding a net rating of +35.

This, however, is the highest rating that the Cabinet received since the +38 or “good” in December 2017.

The SWS said that the increase of the net rating could be due to the increases in Metro Manila and the Visayas, combined with the steady score in Balance Luzon and a slight decline in Mindanao.

The SWS survey, which was conducted from Dec. 16 to 19, used face-to-face interviews of 1,440 Filipino adults nationwide.

The survey had a sampling error margin of +-2.6 percent in national percentages. /jpv
